Who wrote me anon asking for advice about cysts and feminine hygiene. I haven’t forgotten you dear, you’ve been very much on my mind. Thank you for the sweet message (she didn’t want it published) and you are most welcomed.
In her latest message, she mentioned having Bartholin’s Cysts and painful sex for almost a year. For those who don’t know about Bartholin’s Cysts, here is a little info via emedicinehealth.com:
Bartholin’s Cyst OverviewThe Bartholin’s glands are located at the entrance to a woman’s vagina, one on each side. They are small and cannot be seen or felt when they are normal. Their function is to secrete fluid onto the mucosal (inner) surface of the labia-the liplike skin surrounding the vagina.
Problems with the Bartholin’s glands include cysts, which are relatively painless enlargements of the gland, and abscesses, which are infections of the gland. Typically only 1 of the 2 glands is affected.
Bartholin’s Cyst CausesA Bartholin’s cyst develops when the duct exiting the Bartholin’s gland becomes blocked. The fluid produced by the gland then accumulates, causing the gland to swell and form a cyst. An abscess occurs when a cyst becomes infected.
Bartholin’s abscesses can be caused by any of a number of bacteria. These include bacterial organisms that cause sexually transmitted diseases such aschlamydia and gonorrhea as well as bacteria normally found in the intestinal tract, such as Escherichia coli. It is common for these abscesses to involve more than one type of organism.
Dear, you didn’t mention having abscesses so I won’t talk about these since they almost always need to be drained. An efficient way to deal with bad bacteria is to use hydrogen peroxide (H202). Depending on the level of pain you are experiencing, you can either pour the hydrogen peroxide into a clean spray bottle and apply to the infected area after showering or whenever you experience irritation. Another way would be to shallow fill a bath or a small bowl with warm water and add a little H202 and just sit and soak in it for 20 mins. This can be done up to three times a day. Adding a few drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil and/or Organic Neem Oil to the water will add beneficial antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
Since some of the bacteria that is causing these symptoms may be coming directly from your intestinal tract, it is wise to pay special attention to your diet. Stay away from acidic and acid forming foods. Try to alkalize your diet in order to inhibit the growth of bad intestinal bacteria (i’m thinking Candida here). Useful Acid/Alkaline Food Chart.
Certain pathogens love sugar and will make you crave it so they can happily multiply and grow stronger inside your body. Don’t feed it to them. Try and avoid foods containing added sugars and maybe cut down on your daily intake of fresh and dried fruit (dried fruit has a lot more sugars). They also love processed foods, so cutting back or eradicating them all together is also not a bad idea for your total health. Glycemic Index Chart.
Curezone.com is a wonderful supportive community and it has a forum dedicated to Bartholin’s Cysts. Most of these folks are all about natural cures and alternative living and I’ve found them to be very helpful and giving. You will no doubt read a lot of “remedies” on this site, but as always, be very careful and do a patch test before going full throttle. You don’t want to exacerbate the problem or create new ones.
When it comes to intercourse, if it hurts please don’t do it. Friction will worsen the problem and maybe even spread the infection. Not to mention that sex is supposed to be enjoyable and fun. If you are not enjoying yourself there is no point to doing it. Perhaps you and your partner can find other ways to enjoy each other? If you really must dear, please ask your boyfriend to wash his penis and his hands thoroughly and use a condom (if the dryness of the rubber doesn’t hurt)!! Keeping his fingernails short and dirt-free is also wise. Oral intercourse is not suggested because our mouths and saliva are teeming with bacteria. No amount of brushing or gargling can completely kill off every single bacteria in the mouth, teeth, gum-line and tongue. Do whatever you are able to limit bacterial growth.
I’m cool about sending you those books we mentioned. Email me the ones you want. No stress. No weirdness. Happy to help. Lots of love dear and a giant hug. Peace <3

I had a Bartholin Cyst in 1995, and had to have it (and the gland) removed. Thank goodness I’ve still the other one left, but it can be quite uncomfortable. Great that you’ve given this info.
