Thank you! Like a lot of people I battled with acne for many years, it was not until I made the decision to radically change my diet and exclude gluten, dairy and sugar from all things I eat, that my acne completely cleared up. To be honest, it did take a good 3-4 months before I started seeing a difference and by 6 months I was completely clear and - glowing! Thankfully, I don’t even get hormonal acne anymore which used to be a once a month occurrence during my period. Because this helped me and I am able to see the benefit for myself, I would recommend that you try it for yourself as a sort of self experimentation thing, but as always, the choice is and should be, yours. Go with your instinct and what feels right for you.
Ayurvedic treatments are useful because they are natural, gentle, and mindful of PH balancing and they can be made simply by whipping together a few things that you may already have in your kitchen.
Here is a recipe for a good facial wash paste that helps to kill off the bacteria that causes acne:
Ingredients
chick pea flour
sandalwood powder
turmeric powder
dried Goat milk (if tolerate dairy)
powdered rose petals
fullers earth or green clay (bentonite)
Method
Proportions will depend upon how much you want to make and store. Eye ball it and use a ratio of 1:1. Place all ingredients in a clean bowl and mix well. Store in a clean jar with a tight lid.
Use:
Place a tablespoon of the mixture in the palm of your (clean) hand. Add a few drops of warm water or flower water and mix with your finger to create a paste. It should not be runny, more like the consistency of toothpaste. Spread it on your face and neck and massage gently by making small circular movements with your fingers. Do this until the clay begins to feel dry. Leave on for a further 5 minutes and wash well with warm water.……………………………………..
Personally, I use neither a cream or lotion moisturiser. I find that my sensitive skin type reacts better when I use a combination of oils specifically tailored to be nourishing, antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral.
Here is the recipe for a face oil that I use everyday. It is quite potent and will tingle and while this is fine for me, you may want to adjust the formula (some people are more sensitive to essential oils than others):
Ingredients:
Rice Bran Oil - as a base and for its ferulic properties (anti-ageing). I particularly favour Rice Bran Oil because the high levels of oleic acid makes it particularly well absorbed by human skin, and it contains over 100 known vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, including gamma oryzanol, which is believed to impact pigment development (i.e. does a nice job of fading dark pigmentation marks due to build up of melanin).
Neem Seed Oil - as a base and largely for its antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic, and antiparasitic action. The oil has moisturizing and regenerative properties, contains Vitamin E, and has essential fatty acids. Scientific research today validates many of the traditional uses of Neem Oil, it is used to treat bacterial, fungal, and viral infections, boost the immune system, and for many specific health problems. It is also used to deter mosquitoes, fleas, flies, ticks, mites, and lice. Among other conditions, Neem Oil has been historically used to treat the following: Malarial fevers, diabetes, urinary problems, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scabies, gingivitis, swollen and bleeding gums, cavity prevention, ringworm, chicken pox, lice, dandruff, burns, wounds, athlete’s foot, leprosy, hemorrhoids, intestinal worms, boils, ulcers, warts, herpes, arthritis, cancer, sprains, AIDS, cold sores, parasites, bed sores, rashes, gangrene, heart disease, gastritis, stomach problems, sinusitis, hives, hair loss, heart burn, cholesterol, shingles, chronic fatigue, headaches, poor circulation, influenza, colds, insomnia, tuberculosis, immune system, indigestion, conjunctivitis, inflammation, urinary stones, candida, kidney problems, wrinkles, eye disorders, yeast infections, earache, hot spots, and nausea. via mountainroseherbs
Vitamin E Oil
3 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
3 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
3 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
3 drops of Niaouli Essential Oil
3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
3 drops Sandalwood Essential Oil
3 drops Thyme Essential Oil
3 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil
3 drops Basil Essential Oil
3 drops Geranium Essential Oil
3 drops Blue Tansy Essential Oil
Method
In a 2 fluid ounce blue or amber glass apothecary bottle (found in most health food stores), pour the Rice Bran Oil until the bottle is 1/4 full. Next, add a 1/4 of Neem Oil. You don’t need a a lot of Vitamin E Oil, so I would average 1/8 maybe and add that next. Then add all of the essential oils and be careful to measure the drops. Put the top on the bottle and shake to mix thoroughly. The extra space in the bottle can be filled by adding some Rice Bran Oil and Neem Oil in equal proportions.
Use
After washing your face and while your skin is still wet, add 5-7 drops of facial oil into the palm of your hand. Rub hands together and apply to face using a gentle massage technique (shiatsu is good) to emulsify the oil and water. This oil is fantastic for fighting acne and fading dark pigmentation marks.
